Looks like smoothies are no longer just a passing fad, but a full-fledged food group that is here to stay. It’s true – and we’ve seen more and more couples investing in pricier blenders on their wedding registry to prove it.
Check out one of our favorite smoothie recipes below, aptly called the Tastes-Like-Ice-Cream Kale Shake from the Blender Girl. It’s not so often you can compare ice cream to kale, so grab these ingredients and see for yourself!
2 cups filtered water
1/2 cup raw, unsalted cashews, soaked
1 cup torn-up curly green kale leaves (1 or 2 large leaves with stalk removed), plus more to taste
2 sliced medium ripe bananas
1/4 cup chopped pitted dates, soaked, or 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon natural vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon minced ginger, plus more to taste
1 tablespoon flax oil (optional)
1 cup ice cubes, plus more as needed (you want this shake really cold)
Throw all of the ingredients in your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.

½ ripe avocado, pitted, peeled
½ cup coarsely chopped Tuscan kale
½ cup frozen pineapple chunks
¼ cup coarsely chopped coconut meat
1 cup coconut water or iced green tea
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon matcha (green tea powder)
1 tablespoon light agave nectar
Pinch of kosher salt
Using smoothie or ice crush setting, purée avocado, kale, pineapple, coconut meat, coconut water, lemon juice, matcha, agave, salt, and ½ cup ice in a blender until smooth.
