SF Hotspots According to a Refinery29 Editor

The first time we sat down with Angela, SF Editor of R29, it was at an open-air cafe around the corner from the apartment she shares with her photographer fiancé in the Mission.  She was all about sharing a cheese plate and a glass of rose at 3pm on a Thursday. We instantly fell in love.

Her low-key style, matched with an effortless coolness and adventurous spirit, makes her the perfect host in the city she love, so we were thrilled when she offered to let us join her on some of her favorite Zola experiences.

Our first stop was Forage SF where she showed up in a baggy Vince Sweater, jeans, and a low ponytail ready to catch some mussels and rock crabs.  Angela recommends Hog Island Oysters as a cute date spot to follow foraging, so she took us there after our first excursion to warm up.

Later, we got to roam Union Square on the Avital Cocktail Tour, getting a lesson in mixology from some of the most creative folks in town.

Four gorgeous bars later, we got a lot of intel from this cool bride-to-be on Bay Area date spots, putting together a registry, and making your wedding unique to you.

From Angela:

Z: What do you like to cook together?
A: We love to go to our local market, pick up meats and fresh veggies, and experiment.

Z: Best after-work bar?
A: Trick Dog. Amazing cocktails + close to home. Can’t complain!

Z: Dream wedding venue?
A: Definitely somewhere in beautiful NorCal. I love the idea of blending natural elements with gorgeous elevated details.

Z: Top three things you’d add to your Zola registry:
A: 1. ForageSF!!!
2. Beautiful ceramic bowls for dinner parties
3. Champagne flutes – my fave drink!

Z: Tequila, vodka or whiskey?
A: Tequila.

Z: What kind of food do you want at your wedding?
A: Mexican! We got engaged in Tulum, so I want it to feel casual yet elevated. It brings us back.

Z: How (or where) did he propose?
A: In Tulum – at Coqui Coqui.

Z: What’s one thing you want to have at your wedding?
A: A killer photo booth, stunning views, friends + amazing memories.

Z: Favorite things to do together in SF:
A: Actually it’s outside of SF, but I love exploring Marin, Tomales Bay, Belinas etc…

Z: Tips / relationship advice:
A: Don’t forget the small moments – early am cuddles, picnics, sunset views + surprises. Cheesy but true.

Z: Advice you would give the bride-to-be:
A: Always make each other laugh. Support each others life goals, no matter how big or small. Sometimes, all you have to do is listen instead of try to fix their problem. Validate and make room for their feelings. Nothing is too stupid for them to be upset about.
