Romance Abroad: #ZolaCouple Keith & Katherine

Who knew a California flag could be such a great conversation starter? #ZolaCouple Keith & Katherine would know, as they bonded during their semester abroad in Rome over the fact that both went to school in sunny Cal. With only 29 days left until their May wedding, get to know this couple and their wedding planning and registry tips. How did you meet? Both of our architecture schools (Cal Poly and Northeastern) shared a school in Rome for study abroad. Katherine lived down the hall from me and walked past my room everyday. I had a California flag hanging on my wall, it was a great conversation starter. How did you get engaged? We were in Montreal on a Valentines Day long weekend adventure. What was the first thing you did after you got engaged? Went out for an amazing Montreal/French dinner. We didn’t have a reservation, but a large party cancelled theirs and we were seated at a huge round table at the head of the restaurant. Any tips for balancing wedding planning with your everyday busy life? Stay true to what …

A Timeless Tradition Reimagined: Zola Launches First-Of-Its Kind Apple Watch App

For the always-on-the-go couple, planning a wedding can be stressful. Here at Zola, we strive to give newly engaged duos an alternative to old fashioned wedding registries by providing an experience that can keep up with their modern lives and fit into their daily routines. We started Zola with a desire to simplify the wedding planning process and believe that designing solutions that address existing pain points with technology is a key component to achieving this goal. This is why we were excited to build an extension of the Zola app for the Apple Watch. Charles Scalesse (our Principal Mobile Engineer) and I designed the Zola Apple Watch App around our couples. And while we’ve come a long way from my Casio calculator watch in 5th grade, we wanted to share some unique insight we gained through the design process in order to explain how and why we built this app the way that we did. Limitations Are Our Friend How is this device different from a smartphone or tablet and how does that affect how couples will use it?  …

Guilt-Free Chocolate Doughnuts

It’s almost Friday, and if you’re like us you use the weekend as an excuse to indulge. At Zola, we can’t pass up the opportunity to snack on a doughnut. It’s our sweet of choice. But today, we’re turning to our friends at POPSUGAR for a healthy take on a simple craving we can never be cured of. Yes, you heard that right – these are guilt-free doughnuts that taste amazing. Just maybe wait to tell your fiancé and friends what’s in them until after everyone has taken a bite… I know what you’re thinking. Chocolate frosted doughnuts on a health and fitness blog? They have to taste like cardboard, right? But no. Oh no. While baking a batch, the sweet chocolate aroma lured my dessert-loving husband into the kitchen, and after inhaling one, he reached for number two as I casually said, “They’re vegan.” And he said, “I can’t even tell anymore.” Woot! Seriously. These. Are. So. Good! Like wouldn’t-guess-that-there-are-chickpeas-in-these-doughnuts GOOD! Yes, you heard right. There are chickpeas in these delicious doughnuts, adding protein, fiber, and a satisfying softness. Obviously, at 180 …

Get to know Mark & Antoinette and help them count down the 17 days left until their May wedding. How did you get engaged? It’s not really all that exciting for other people, but it is for us. Mark had been ring shopping for at least a month or two before he actually proposed. After a month or so Mark said let’s just go look at some rings together, so we found a ring that we both loved and he held onto it for a month before he proposed at 6 a.m. on June 9th. I had just gotten out of the shower, and he asked me to marry him, which he had actually done jokingly a few times, so I didn’t believe …
